Evaluation of the anti-diabetic potential of methanol seed extract of Telfairia occidentalis

The aim of this study was to evaluate the anti-diabetic potential T. occidentalis seed extract in wistar rats. Exactly 500 g powdered sample processed into extract. Twenty five adult male rats were divided groups each. Group I normal control and fed rat chow water only, II untreated diabetic Groups III IV administered 100 200 mg/kg respectively. V standard drug (200 metformin). Administration lasted for 28 days after which animals sacrificed blood collected analysis. Blood sugar level reported as well activity catalase superoxide dismutase significantly (p<0.05) increased. aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine transaminase (ALT) alkaline phosphatase (ALP) (P<0.05) high control. However, oral administration reduced aforementioned enzymes. In conclusion, it can be deduced from that salvaged condition, increased antioxidant enzyme not deleterious liver.
